The prosecution at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 submitted formal charge on Thursday against five alleged rajakars from Moulvibazar, bringing five specific charges of crimes against humanity against them.
“We have brought five charges including murder, abduction and torture against them,” said prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon, who submitted the formal charge before the three-judge tribunal.
The five accused are Samsul Hossain Tarafder, 65, Nesar Ali, 75, Yunus Ahmed, 71, Ujer Ahmed Chowdhury, 63, and Mobarak Mia, 66. According to the prosecution the accused ran havoc in the locality during the War of Liberation as the leaders of local Razakar Bahini and Al-Badr.
Of the accused, Yunus and Ujer, who were arrested last year, were present at the courtroom. The law enforcing agencies are yet to detain the other accused.
Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the tribunal, set June 9 to pass order whether to take the charges into cognizance.
