The International Crimes tribunal (ICT)-1 on Monday framed war crimes charges against five alleged Razakars from Kishoreganj.
The five accused are advocate Shamsuddin Ahmed, 60, his brother Md Nasiruddin Ahmed, 62, Gazi Abdul Mannan, 88, Hafiz Uddin, 66, and Azharul Islam, 60. Of them, Shamsuddin is now in custody.
Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the ICT-1, framed seven specific charges against them, including killing, abduction, torture and arson.
The charges are killing eight people and injuring another four villages on November 12; killing Miah Hossain of Aila village on November 13; abduction and killing of Abdur Gafur of Kalatali on September 26; abduction, torture and killing of Fazlur Rahman of Atkapara on August 23; killing of Paresh Chandra Sarkar of Ramnagar on September 7; torture and killing of Abu Bakar Siddique and Rapali on August 25; and arson and vandalism in Atkapara on September 15.
The tribunal on October 4 set on Monday to pass the order whether to indict them or not. The tribunal on that day also appointed advocate Abdus Shukur Khan as the counsel to defend Shamsuddin as M Atiqur Rahman refused to move anymore for the accused in the court.
