The connecting road of Ichakuri Bridge at Roumari upazila in Kurigram district has damaged as big holes have been created in flood in last year. The road communication may be suspended at any time.
The people of the area have been suffering from bad road communication for the last two years but the authority concern has not taken any steps to repair the road.
Sources said the bridge was constructed at Ichakuri area at a cost of Tk. 56 lakh under Kurigram Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in 2006. The connecting road was damaged in the flood in last two years. Some parts of the road and several holes were developed and those holes became larger in the last flood causing the bridge is being threatened. Consequently vehicles including bus, truck, tempo and auto rickshaw remained suspended on the road, local sources said.
Chairman of Roumari Sadar union council Abdur Razzak said the pitiable condition of the bridge and connecting road was informed to Kurigram Roads and Highways Department in black and white but they are not taking any steps to repair. Executive Engineer of Kurigram RHD Abdul Hamid told that I am not aware about pitiable condition of the connecting road. I have not received any complain or application. However necessary steps will be taken to repair the bridge after inspection, he added.
