International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive David Richardson expressed his high satisfaction on Bangladesh as the host nation of the 11th ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup that ended on Sunday.
“Certainly, for this event, probably more so than any previous event, absolutely no stone was left unturned to provide a secure environment,” Richardson said during a media conference in a city hotel on Monday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and ICC jointly organised the media conference after the successful conclusion of the world youth cricket tournament.
The ICC chief executive said the ICC governing body is satisfied with its decision to carry on the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, despite Australia pulled out of the tournament due to security reasons. “I think the outcomes and the results say that it was the correct decision.”
“The way the tournament was conducted, it was superb, in terms of the cricket and the facilities we’ve got overall,” he continued.
Richardson informed that the security standard from this event will be followed for future ICC tournaments including the upcoming World T20 to be held in India next month. “I think we’ve set a standard of what we need to deliver, with respect to all events.”
On the consequences of Australia’s pullout, Richardson said, “We can’t force a particular country into competing; as I said, they (any team that pulls out of an ICC tournament) might run in the risk of being breach of a contract, but that’s the decision they need to take.”
