UNB, Bagerhat :National cricketer Rubel Hossain, who has been hitting the media headlines for last few months, wants to make a notable contribution for the development of Bangladesh cricket.The Bagerhat-born pacer expressed a wish to make a cricket academy in his district in order to bring the talented cricketers from the district into the limelight.”I want to do something special for cricket so that people of my country remember me,” he expressed his hope while talking to UNB at his home in Bagerhat.Rubel said there are a lot of brilliant cricketers in our country who cannot come to the frontline for lack of opportunity. In his academy the 25 year-old-pacer wants to nurture young cricketers throughout the year, so that newer cricketers of his academy can get a chance to play at national level, like Dhaka and Khulna. Rubel, who has played 22 Tests, 59 ODIs and 11 T20’s for Bangladesh so far, drew the attention of the selectors through a pacer-hunt program organised by Grameenphone.He also thinks these talent-hunt programs will help to bring out the new talents.The youngest boy of a family of seven members, Rubel was passionate about cricket from his childhood amid family hostility, but his mother supported him.When asked about the umpiring during the second quarter final of the world cup cricket between Bangladesh and India, Rubel said the audiences of the world including that of Bangladesh witnessed what happened.”Players have to accept umpiring decisions, as all the decisions of a match depend on them,” he added.Rubel was first picked in the national team in late 2008 after some consistently good performances in the Cricket Academy and he made his international debut in January 2009 against Sri Lanka.In his cricket career, Rubel captured overall 116 wickets (32 in Test, 77 in ODI and 7 in T-20I) so far.Rubel was arrested in a rape case filed by actress Naznin Akter Happy on the eve of the World Cup.Later, he came out from jail on bail and appeared in the World Cup with his teammates.His consistent bowling performances in the tournament spurred Bangladesh to ensure the Tigers’ quarter-final berth for the first time.The right-arm fast bowler, who clocked speeds over 90mph (144 kmh) during the tournament, grabbed eight wickets with a best of 4/53 against England, in the game that Bangladesh ensured its qualification.
