Arindam Sil’s Dhananjoy delves into one of the most debated crimes of our times -the murder and rape of 14-year-old Hetal Parekh in 1990 and the subsequent hanging of Dhananjoy Chatterjee for it in 2004. It is telling about Mimi Chakraborty who plays a pivotal role in the film.
It is a fictional character which Arindamda (Sil) and Padmanabhada (Dasgupta) have created. “When I was offered the film, I refused because I couldn’t do a film that I wasn’t convinced about. It was after three sittings that I gave my nod. I share many similarities with Kavya. She is a strong independent woman, who talks her mind and fears no one,” Mimi said.
