Lately, every actress worth her salt and pepper has been seeking a project that allows her the space to perform and display her acting prowess. Also, films that centre on a female character are increasing in numbers and showing tremendous box office potential. When asked about this trend, Parineeti Chopra, who has recently completed work on ‘Kesari’ in Jaipur, said, “I have said this for six long years. I didn’t debut in a film playing a diva. We say that we are actors because the audience has accepted us in leading characters. There’s nothing new about women playing pivotal parts or title roles in films. Women in strong characters have always been accepted. It has been this way for years. Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and to some degree, even I have been working in films that have a lot of scope to perform. In fact, it’s these strong films that have kept us going. Yes, the audience and the industry has seen potential in such films now and probably, these films will start getting their due importance in the in entertainment space.”
