Farmers have become happy after cultivating high yielding variety (HYV) BARI mustards on their lands including char areas of the district during the last three years.
Mustard fields on the vast tracts of land in the six upazilas of the districts have already worn eye-catching yellow look with an expectation of bumper production.
Habibur Rahman, a farmer of Adiabad village under Raipura village of the district, said the cultivation of BARI mustard has gained much popularity among the farmers of the district as they are getting good production and also fair prices of the cash crop in recent years.
Narsingdi office of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said farmers in the district have brought 3,860 hectares of land under cultivation during the current season with the hope of getting production of 5,800 tonnes of the crop.
Deputy Director, DAE Narsingdi Shovan Kumar Dhar said farmers have been given quality seeds, necessary inputs and training on the latest technologies for achieving good yield of mustard seed.
He underscored the need for using the latest agro-technologies and disseminating proper knowledge to the farmers for increasing mustard seed to achieve self-reliance in edible oil to reduce the dependency on import.
Chuadanga Correspondent adds: Farmers here are expecting bumper production of maize this year due to favourable weather condition, soil and necessary technical help from Local Agriculture Extension Department (DAE) Sources said that cultivator target of Maize was 46121 hectares this year, but the target has been exceeded, and farmers cultivated more 2500 hectares of land than the previous year. The production target was 5.25 lakh monds.
Of the total land 12080hectores have been brought in chuadanga sadar, 11651 hectors in Alamdanga. 13920 hectores in Damurhuda and 6100 hectores upazela.
The DAE had provided training to the farmers and advised them for using organic fertilizers.

Md. Sahidul Hoque son of Romjan Mondale a farmer of Zehala village under Alamdanga Upazela said, cultivated Maize on four bighar of land spending TK 45000this season and are expecting fo earn TK 40000 to 50000 as profit from the produce.
