In observance of the National Sanitation Month, a colourful rally was brought out under the auspices of District Administration, Department of Public Health Department, Kishoreganj and BRAC on Tuesday.
The rally was inaugurated by Deputy Director of Local Government Mohammad Abdullah. The procession paraded the different thoroughfares of the town. A discussion meeting was arranged at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner.
Executive Engineer, Department of Public Health Engineering Mohammad Moshiur Rahman presided over the meeting. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Md. Habibur Rahman was present as special guests.
It was addressed among others by Senior District Information Officer Md. Shamsul Hoque, Former Principal Rafiqul Islam Khan, BRAC Representative Bazlur Rashid, Care Technical Managar S.M Khaladul Ahsan, Sadar Upazila Female Vice Chairman Masuma Akter, Journalist A.K Nasim Khan, Mushfiqur Rahman and Rajibul Hoque Siddique spoke on the occasion.
Gopalganj Correspondent reports: The National Sanitation Month October and World Hand washing Day was celebrated with a befitting manner in Gopalganj on Tuesday. The theme of the day was “Improved sanitation for all, ensure a healthy life”.
District administration Gopalganj and Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Gopalganj jointly organised the programme.
On the occasion of the day, they brought out a colourful rally. The rally paraded main roads in the city. Teachers, students, Journalists, political leaders, general people, local elites and high official of the District were attended the rally.
After rally a discussion meeting was held at DC Office Conference Room in Gopalganj. Dipok Chandra Talukder, Executive Engineer DPHE, Gopalganj presided over the programme. Where Shahida Sultana, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Gopalganj spoken as the chief guest. Chowdhury Emdadul Haque, President, District Awami League (AL), Gopalganj, Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP), Gopalganj, Mahabub Ali Khan, General Secretary, District AL, Gopalganj, Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bacchu, Upazilla Chairman, Gopalganj Sadar, Kazi Liakat Ali, Mayor, Gopalganj Pourashava, Gopalganj and Dr Tarun Mondal, Civil Surgeon (CS), Gopalganj were spoken as special guests respectively.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Officials and experts at a post-rally discussion on Tuesday underscored the need for ensuring hygienic sanitization and maintaining cleanliness to prevent waterborne and many other diseases.
The divisional administration with Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) jointly organised the rally, hand washing campaign and discussion in observance of the National Sanitation Month October and World Hand Washing Day.
Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam inaugurated observance of the occasions at Public Library ground, led the rally from there and demonstration of hand-washing campaign for school students on Rangpur Zilla School ground.
Earlier, led by the Divisional Commissioner, officials and employees, students from different educational institutions, representatives of NGOs,
civil society members and local elite participated in the rally that parade the city streets.
Presided over by Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain, the Divisional Commissioner addressed the assessment discussion held at Rangpur Zila School auditorium as the chief guest.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, Superintending Engineer of DPHE for Rangpur Circle Engineer Md. Bahar Uddin Mridha, its Executive Engineer Ummey Roman Khan Jonnie, Additional Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Sufian, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shukria Pervin and UNICEF Child Protection Officer Jasmine Hossain spoke as special guests.
Engineer Bahar Uddin discussed various government steps those have factually turned sanitation campaign into a successful social movement for stopping different diseases including diarrhea, cholera and dysentery.
“The success achieved in sanitation, pure drinking water, hygiene and health services, maintaining cleanliness in the country in last eleven years is being appreciated globally,” Bahar added.
The speakers laid importance on creating awareness among common people, especially children and adolescents, on health, hygiene, sanitation, personal hygiene, washing of hands, using safe drinking water and maintaining clean environment.
The chief guest called upon all concerned to work with utmost dedication and sincerity in making students and people aware of hand washing, sanitation, personal hygiene and safe drinking water to attain the sustainable development goals by 2030.
