A Public Safety Tribunal in a verdict here on Sunday sentenced a man and his wife to death on charges of killing his elder brother in Mirsharai Upazila of the district in 2005.
The Judge of Chittagong Divisional Public Safety Tribunal Syeda Hosne Ara pronounced the verdict convicting Nur Mohammad and his wife Rahima Begum.
The prosecution story in brief is that the couple chopped to death one Abul Kalam, elder brother of the convict Nur Mohammad, who hailed from Patakot village under Mirsharai Upazila of the district, on November 11, 2005 over previous enmity.
Later, victim’s wife Anowara Begum filed a case against the couple on the same day on charges of killing her husband.
Police submitted charge sheet on January 2, 2006 while the judge framed charges against the two accused under Sections 304 and 34 of the Penal Code after the case was transferred to the Public Safety Tribunal. The court today after examining seven prosecution witnesses awarded the judgement convicting the fugitive couple.
