A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife at Dakkhin Kalduar village in Durgapur upazila in 2009.
The convict Faruk Miah,son of late Tafazzal Husain of village, remained absconding since the killing.
Judge KM Raseduzzaman Raja of Netrakona District and Session’s Judges Court also acquitted Faruk’s mother Mazeda Begum as the allegation brought against her was not proved.
According to the prosecution, on the night of September 1, 2009, Faruk locked into an altercation with his wife Lovely Akhter over a family matter. At one stage, Faruk slaughtered his wife and fled the scene.
On the following day, father of the deceased Joynal Abedin filled a murder case with Purbadhala Police Station accusing five including Faruk.
Later, police submitted a charge sheet accusing 13 people in the case.
After scrutinizing the records and examining nine witnesses, the court found Faruk guilty and ordered death penalty.
