A court here on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to three years imprisonment for torturing his wife over dowry.
The convict was identified as Abdur Rahman alias Milton Sarkar, 35, son of Harishchandra Sarkar of Singhra village in Anwara upazila.
The court also fined the convict TK 30,000 .
According to the prosecution, the convict converted to Islam and married Saleha Begum on January 10, 2008. He demanded Tk 5 lakh from his wife as dowry and failing to realise the money he beat up Saleha on April 30, 2010.
Saleha Begum filed a case against him on May 3, 2010. Police submitted charge sheet against Milton after investigation.
After examining the records and witnesses, district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Mohamamd Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
