A court on Tuesday awarded death sentence to husband and his friend on charge of killing the former’s wife Shahnaj Begum,28, over a family feud at dead of night on 23 September,2011 at home in Shafibad village in Kochua Upazila. The court also fined them Tk 10 thousand each.
The condemned convicts are husband Md Manjil Miji, 35, and his friend Md Mizanur Rahman,40,.
The District and Sessions Judge Zulfiquer Ali Khan delivered the judgement at noon on Tuesday in the absence of the convicts as both the accused are still absconding.
According to the prosecution in brief, at dead of night on 23 September,2011, a serious altercation took place between husband Manjil and Shahnaj over a family feud. Then, Manjil along with his friend strangulated Shahnaj to death at home.
Later, the victim Shahnaj’s father Md Shah Alam filed a killing case under Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Domon Act in this connection accusing Manjil and Mizan.
Kochua Thana Sub Inspector Md Nizamuddin investigated the case and then submitted chargesheet accusing them both on 5 February,2012 under Section 302/34. The court took the deposition of 15 people in the case. After examining the witnesses and records, the District and Sessions Judge Zulfiquer Ali Khan found them guilty and handed down the above mentioned verdict and fined them.
