A newly married wife was allegedly killed by her husband for demand of dowry in Nazirpara area under Panchalaish thana in the city on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Sharmin Akhter Sumi. Her husband Solaiman Hossain was detained by police.
Police said, Sumi was married with Solaiman of Noakhali district two months ago and she was continuously tortured by husband since her marriage for the dowry, reports BSS. In one stage of family feud, Sumi was strangulating at father-in-law’s house of Nazirpara and the victim instantly admitted in Chattogram Medical college Hospital on Monday night. Later, she succumbed to her injuries at CMCH in the same night.
Abul Kashem, officer-in-charge of Panchalaish thana said that police detained Solaiman and he confessed about the strangulations with the help of scarf.
The body was sent to morgue for autopsy, police added. Victim’s mother Chemon Ara Begum lodged a murder case with Panchliash thana in this connection.
