A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to death penalty for killing his wife in Rahomotpur Residential area in the town in 2015.
District and Session Judge Md Julfikar Ali Khan handed down the verdict to Gofur Miji, an inhabitant at Chirka Chandpur village under Faridganj Upazila. He used to live in Chandpur town with his wife.
According to the prosecution, on October 20 in 2015 daylabour Gofur Miji strangled to death his wife Salma Begum at night at his house.
On information police recovered her body and brought it to Thana next day. An unnatural death case was filed with Chandpur Model Thana on October 21.
On July 1 in 2016, the woman’s mother filed a murder case accusing Gofur Miji. Police pressed the charge-sheet on November 1 in the year.
