Locals caught three members of a family for torturing a housewife for dowry at Nischintapur area of the city on Friday noon.
The arrested were identified as victim’s husband Nayon Miah, 30, her mother-in-law Hawa Begum, 50, and brother-in-law Osman, 28.
Locals said Nayon married Tania Akhter, daughter of Abul Hossain of Zanjira in Shariatpur district, six months ago. Since their marriage, he used to torture Tania for bringing Tk 1 lakh from her parents.
On Thursday night, Nayon tortured his wife and drove her out of the house. Later, he took Tania home after locals protested the incident.
On Friday morning, Nayon, his parents and brother beat the housewife and cut her hair.
