Police said they are hunting more militant dens after busting three in Gazipur and Tangail on Saturday in separate raids conducted by joint forces, leaving 11 suspected militants dead.
The killed ‘militants’ are believed to be the members of banned militant group Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which blamed for a series of recent attacks on religious minorities, bloggers and foreigners.
Security agencies earlier busted over 30 dens of the radical outfits in the city and elsewhere in the country. They have raided militant dens in the city’s Kallaynpur, Mirpur, Azimpur and Narayangan and Gazipur districts.
“We are hunting for more militant dens which are believed to be existing in different districts in the country,” a high official of the Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crimes (CTTC) told The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said, “We have a primary idea that militants have more dens in the capital and its adjacent districts. But we have so far found at least nine hideouts after the Gulshan café attack.”
The official said they have information that many JMB members are in hideouts at different places. So, we are trying to locate their hideout to conduct raids.
“It’s almost a difficult because the arrested militants did not provide information about their dens,” he added.
In this context, the law enforcers are trying to find out all hideouts to root out the militancy from the country and maintain the law and order.
The official further said, four suspected militant fled during the raid in Patartek of Gazipur. They have taken shelter in ‘so called safe place’ by dodging the law enforcers. So, it is necessary to detect their hideout to make the ongoing raids against militants a success.
The CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanwar Hosain, who is investigating New JMB activities, said, “There are five or more JMB dens in the city and its adjacent areas. We will conduct drive to find out the hideouts soon after proper intelligence gatherings.”
He said the militants have preferred to set up dens in suburbs and remote areas to avoid public attention.
