The sun has never seen in the last two days in Bogra district due to the heavy fog. A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping in Bogra and surrounding districts intensifying sufferings of the poor. People are experiencing a severe cold weather coupled with foggy atmosphere.
The local Meteorological Office said the temperature fell in the areas. Met office sources in Bogra told our Bogra correspondent that temperature in the district fell drastically in to starting January audit often fluctuates between 9 and 10 degrees Celsius, paralysing normal life. Meteorological Office Bogra recorded 9.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning.
The wind blowing from the Himalayas has intensified the cold in the northern region of the country, sources of the office said. The current cold wave is likely to continue two to three more days and cause immense sufferings to the poor and floating people living under the open sky, say weather experts.
The cold spell is hampering normal life in Bogra and surrounding districts. Hundreds of people, especially children and the elderly, are mainly being affected by cold while the correspondent visiting Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra. Severity of the cold becomes bone chilling when freezing wind starts blowing at night in the districts. The poor section of people is worst hit due to the inclement weather.
Most day-labourers, workers and rickshaw-pullers of the districts do not dare to go out for work as they do not have warm clothes.
Traffic moving along the streets of the district towns becomes unusually thin because of poor visibility caused by dense fog. People of low and middle-income groups are crowding second hand clothe markets to buy warm clothes at cheaper price. Taking advantage of the adverse weather, a section of second hand warm clothe traders has set up a make-shift market beside the footpaths in the district town.
Everyday thousands of people from about 20 upazilas of adjoining districts crowd the market to purchase old clothes.
The poor people, especially of char areas along Sariakandi and Dhunut upazila of Jamuna and Bangali rivers, have become worst sufferers as there is no job for them due to severe cold and dense fog.
Local people said that the bone chilling weather disrupted normal life in 12 upazilas of the district for the last seven days.
Day-labourer Abdul Wahed, 55, of Char Boishakhi village in Jamuna river basin in Sariakandi uapzila said, “I can’t go to work in the field for the last several days due to heavy cold and dense fog”.
Bagerhat Correspondent adds: The normal life of the people of Bagerhat district town and its nine Upazilas has been affected due to second time mild cold weather coupled with chili wind and fog for the last few days.
The sufferings of the daily wise earners like day labourers, rickshaw pullers, and farm labourers have mounted especially in the morning and in the evening.

But fortunately nobody died during the 2nd cold spell in the district so far due to the cold spell.
