Due to endless rain for four days, the water of Chengi river of Khagrachhari has increased and due to heavy rains in Tripura State of India, there is plenty of water coming in the Chengi River through Laugang canal and Pujgang canal of Panchhari upazila on the border of Khagrachhari district.
The lower area on the banks of the river has been flooded. About hundreds of families have been affected by water disputes in the district city’s Muslimpara, Ganjpara and Bangalkathi areas. Many of these areas have gone to the shelter centre .
Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachhari visited other shelter centers including Children Government Primary School shelter centre of the district town on Tuesday noon. At that time, he distributed dry foods among the affected people.
Besides, due to endless rain, hills are likely to collapse in Khagrachhari. In the meantime, some small hills have collapsed in Shalbon and Mollapara areas of the district. Although there is no casualties, the fear of the residents who live in foothills with risk has not cut out. Meanwhile, the risky living residents have been asked to move to a safe place or shelter centre by miking.
Statistics of administration has been said, there has 832 families in risky settlements on the foothill in the entire district. However, according to non-governmental estimates, its number is approximately more than one and a half thousand.
