Humayuns’ still the bestseller

Thousands of book lovers throng the Boi Mela everyday to buy the books of popular Bengali novel writer Humayun Ahmed as he is still alive in the minds of readers.
Publishers said the vacuum created in the demised of the popular writer Humayun Ahmed cannot be easily filled up by other writers.
The books of Humayun Ahmed also rank top on sales record. Although the presence of the book lovers in the Boi Mela this year is more than the last year, the crowd situation always prevails at the stalls where Humayun’s books are available. Humayun’s books remain the charmers.
It is witnessed that a good number of book lovers buy books of Humayun at the stall of Annya Prokash, Kakoli Prokashani, Ananya Prokashani, Annesha Prokashani, Anupom Prokashani, Oboshor Prokashani, Mawla Brothers and Shomoy Prokashani.
The publishers and executives of these publishing houses said that Humayun’s books are the best sale this year’s Boi Mela also. They said that Dewa, Himu Dosh, Humayun Rachanabali, Michir Ali and Sera Humayun are selling high. Humayun’s other bestselling novels are Shonkhonil Karagar, Rajani, Epitaph, Pakhi Amar Ekla Pakhi, Fera, ‘Nishad, Daruchini Dwip, Badal Diner Ditio Kadam Ful, Nirbason, ‘Omanush, ‘Rupali Dwip, Shuvro, Dure Kothao, Mandrasaptak, ‘Badsha Namdar, Sajghar, Basor and Nripati. Mazharul Islam publisher of Annya Prokash said that Humayun’s books were invariable bestsellers at Ekushey book fairs for many years.
Kakoli Prokashoni Publishers Nasir Uddin Ahmed Selim said that Humayun’s death dealt a big shock to the publication industry. But he created many new readers. That is why his books are also on the top of selling.
 “I am the fan of Humayun Ahmed. I read all the books of him. I love to read his books. I also get inspiration and learn more from his books. I bought at least sixty books of Humayun. I miss him very much,” Abdul Hakim, a third year student of Arabic dept. of Dhaka University, said.
Meanwhile, Sixty four new books arrived and 5 cover of the books were unveiled on Monday on the 22nd day of the book fair.
Of the new books, 4 are story, 11 novels, 2 Article, 27 Poem, 1 Dissertation, 2 Rhyme, 3 child-Literature, 1 Volume, 2 Liberation War, 2 Excursion, 3 Political, 2 Translation and 4 Miscellaneous.
Some new books are, Somajbodol Unnon O Rajniti of Towhidul Hoque published by Bud Publication, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib of Khan Shawkat published by Shikha Prokashoni, Ghor Vanga Jhar of Golam Kibriya published by Adarsha, Ek Somudra Dirghashas of Sharmin Sultana Rina and Kuheli Kuhuk of Annesha Tithi published by Desh Publication and Tin Khude Goenda of Mustahir Aziz Rahman published by Anna Prokash.
A discussion titled Shah Abdul Karim Jonmoshatobarsiki’was held at 4:00 pm in the main podium of Academy. Abul Ahsan Chowdhury presided over the function while, Vishmu Dev Chowdhury, Sharodindu Vottacharja and Saimon Jakariya was present as the discussant.
Later, a fascinating cultural function was held in the main stage of Academy.
