Legendary writer, play director and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed’s 66th birth anniversary was celebrated yesterday on the premises of Channel i office in the city’s Tejgaon area.
To mark the occasion, Channel i held Humayun Mela 2014. The channel also declared Humayun Ahmed’s birthday as Himu Day.
Noted personalities – Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagor, actor, director and theatre activist Mamunur Rashid, poet Asad Chowdhury, Abdul Latif Bachchu, singer Md Khurshid Alam, actor Keramat Mawla, magician Jewel Aich, singer Fakir Alamgir, actor Tariq Anam Khan and actress-singer Meher Afroz Shaon inaugurated the ‘Humayun Mela’ through releasing yellow balloons in the morning air.
Fans of Humayun Ahmed rendered a choral song, written by the late litterateur from his last directed movie Ghetuputro Komola. Widow of Humayun Ahmed Meher Afroz Shaon said, “Let’s not be sad on Humayun Ahmed’s birthday, and celebrate the day as in previous years.”
Baul singer Shofi Mondal, singer Selim Chowdhury, Kshudey Gaanraj Tuba, Smaran, Luipa, Sherakontho Rafsan, among others, rendered songs at the event. Apu Mahfuz and Moushumi Barua moderated the event.
Therefore, various stalls at the fair showcased DVDs, CDs and VCDs of TV plays and films directed by Humayun Ahmed.
A book fair showcasing Humayun Ahmed’s masterpieces was also a part of the arrangement. Channel i and Radio Bhumi aired the fair live till 2:00pm on the day. n
