Humayun for following HK convention in ship breaking industry

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Thursday suggested the entrepreneurs to comply with the Hong Kong convention to establish a world class ship breaking industry in Bangladesh.
He made the suggestion while a delegation of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers’ and Recyclers’ Association (BSBRA) called on him at his ministry office.
Recognizing the importance of the ship breaking and recycling industry to the national economy, the minister said the government treated it as a priority sector in the election manifesto.
He also noted that a new opportunity has been created for the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in ship breaking and recycling industry since China has quitted this sector.
Acting Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim, Additional Secretary A K M Shamsul Arefin, BSBRA President M A Taher and executive members Master Abul Kashem, Shawkat Ali Chowdhury and Liakat Ali Chowdhury and entrepreneur Didarul Alam, MP, were present.
The BSBRA leaders requested the minister to introduce “One Stop service” for the quick expansion of the sector. They also laid emphasis on the quick formation of a board and finalization of the legal aspect.
Later, the BSBRA delegation met State Minister for Industry Kamal Ahmed Mojumder at his office.
The state minister told the delegation that the ministry would ease the procedures of getting government services.
