A human waste plant constructed over 20 kathas of land at Jalalabad ward in the city was inaugurated yesterday by City Major AJM Nasiruddin as chief guest. In his inaugural speech said Chattogram city now one s tep advanced to turn the city pollution free and environment friendly city .
He said under the supervision of city corporation, this treatment plant is constructed first ever in the city for 70 lakh population at a cost of Tk1.20 crores.
City Mayor said every day about 20 thousand liters of human waste will be treated in this plant . According to this quantities of waste, yearly about 73 lakh liters waste will be turned into natural fertilizer after treatment. This project is one of the achievement for turning the city in a environment friendly one and this plant will play big role for cleaning the safety tank and removal of human waste. City mayor added. He further said four vacuum tanker vehicles are being used in removing the human waste from safety tanks in the city with the cooperation of CCC.
He also apprised that from these treated human wastes, quality natural fertilizer will be produced in another plant of the corporation.
Mentionable that Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WASUP) is assisting for construction of the plant and supply of vacuum vehicles to CCC. Meanwhile Chief Executive Officer of CCC Md Shamsudoha formally signed the collaboration letters, handover of vacuum tankers and lease agreement with WASUP at a city hotel earlier.
Among others, local councilor Md Shahed Iqbal Babu, Chief Conservancy Officer Shafiqul Mannan Siddiqui, Conservancy Officer Morshedul Alam, country Program manager of WASUP Abdus Saheen, sanitation leader Habibur RAhman, Business Development Officer Manzur Morshed were present on the occasion.
