A citizen’s body formed a human chain in front of Jessore Press Club protesting at the attack on Ziaul Haque, Jessore Correspondent, privatised television channel Independent Television and his camera person Sharif allegedly by a faction of the ruling party at Benapole while they were performing professional jobs.
Zia told Newsmen that a number of labourers led by Wahiduzzaman, who is a fellow of a lawmaker swooped on him and his cameraman Sharif Khan with iron rods and other local weapons while the duo were taking vide shots near the local Awami League officer at Benapole at around 10:15. ‘The AL men attacked us twice at around 10:15 and 10:30 am,’ Zia added.
‘We were attacked as we captured the scene of hurling bombs,’ he further said, `they damaged my camera completely.’ The incident had been taken place on January 24.
Lawmaker for Jessore 1, Shiekh Afil Uddin, however, denied his involvement in the attack. ‘No fellow of mine can do such thing,’ he added.
A rally was held during the human chain where Faruk Jahangir Tipu, SM Tauhidur Rahman, Jewel Mridha, Habibur Rahman Milan, Pronab Das, Raju Ahmed Babu and Sujon Duta spoke.
The speakers demanded immediate arrest to the attackers of journalists.
Sylhet Bureau adds: The resented citizen movement Sylhet arranged a human chain against attach to journalists on Saturday. About 200 people take part.
The group demanded immediate trial of it and they demanded to stop stone excavation. At the same time the demanded expulary punishment of jaintapur upazila AL GS Likat Ali and others.
The speakers said, we are very much shocked about physical assault to media person. Those who destroy our nature. They will face Sylhet to challenge in future. Black money will destroy socio-political harmony. They avoid trial. Fature generation never for give us. So we must perform our duty.

Meanwhile Two journalists were injured in an attack allegedly by the followers of an Awami League leader in Court area of Sylhet.
The injured are Nirananda Paul, camera person of Jamuna TV, and Mamun Hasan, photo journalist of Jugantor.
The two came under the attack when they were recording video footages of Liaquat Ali, general secretary of Awami League (Jaintapur unit), just after he was denied a bail petition by a local court in a murder case.
Nirananda was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition while Mamun received primary treatment at the hospital.
