The students of Hatiya Upazila in Noakhali district formed a human chain yesterday in front of the National Press Club to protest the closure of 10 schools at Harani Union. They have also demanded immediate opening of those schools.
According to eyewitnesses, several hundred students formed the human chain under the banner of ‘Hatiya Chhatra Forum-Dhaka (HCFD)’. Forum President Somir Uddin and General Secretary Ibrahim Mesbah were present in the programme.
The speakers of the programme said, “In twenty years, there have been constructed a large number of educational institutes in Hatiya on the lands lying unclaimed for years. The speakers have urged district administration and the Education Ministry to take measures to recover the school lands from the grabbers as soon as possible, so that the students can return to school.
