The people of Jhenaidah under the banner of Ila Mitra Smrity Sangrakkhan Parishad in Jhenaidah formed a human chain in Post Office Intersection of the town and submitted memorandum with five-point demands to the deputy commissioner of Jhenaidah on Tuesday morning.
Ila Mitra Smrity Sangrakkhan Parishad President Gautam Bosu, said, they have been demanding immediate preservation and interference of the government in preserving the house of the peasant leader at Bagutia as the same was anyhow occupied by a vested quarter in the name of purchasing the house with lands where Ila was grown up.
The occupiers of the house have been claiming that their previous generation had purchased the house and lands from the successors to Ila Mitra’s near and dear ones.
JSD leader Fazlur Rahman Khurram, Jatiya Sramik League leader Ekramul Haque Liku, Ila Mitra Smrity Sangrakkhan Parishad President Gautam Bosu and secretary of the committee Suman Sikder among others spoke during the human chain.
Mention may be made that the house of Ila Mitra at Bagutia village has been decaying faster as the building is not reconstructed or maintained for decades together.
Ila Mitra led the historic Tebhagha Andolon (a movement favoring the peasants) against the British rules had demanded at lest two-third of the crops for the farmers, while one -third by the so-called land owners during the British reign.
