UNB, Dhaka :
Cricket fans formed a human chain on Dhaka University campus on Friday afternoon protesting the dubious umpiring decisions against Bangladesh during the second quarterfinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup at MCG on Thursday.
Bangladesh Cricket Fans Unity organised the human chain programme in front of Raju Sculpture on the DU campus.
People from all walks of life carrying placards joined the programme.
Some of the placards read: ‘India won by 4 umpires’, ‘Cricket lost to injustice’, ‘ICC-Indian Cricket Council’.
They also burnt the effigies of the two umpires-Ian Gould and Aleem Dar – who officiated the Bangladesh-India match.
Sanjiban S Chatterjy, secretary of the group, demanded that ICC President AHM Mustafa Kamal step down willingly if he fails to take any action against the umpires.
He also said the group will go to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday afternoon to receive the Bangladeshi cricketers who are scheduled to return home on the day completing their World Cup mission.
Earlier, on Thursday Bangladesh lost to India by 109 runs in the second quarterfinal at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia. Several decisions of the umpires went against the Tigers during the match, depriving Bangladesh from a victory.
