A human chain was formed in front of Chittagong Press Club on Monday demanding the construction of a coal based power plant in Gandamara area of Banshkhali.
A newly formed platform ‘people of Chittagong from all walks of life’ organised the human chain.
The residents from Patiya, Anowara, and Banshkhali participated in the human chain.
Former Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and the President of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury attended the human chain and expressed his solidarity with the people for construction of the power plant in Banshkhali for development of the locality.
Addressing the people, Mohiuddin Chowdhury opined that the coastal areas of Banshkhali would be developed with the construction of the proposed power plant.
But he criticised that a vested quarter had been trying to foil the development project in the locality for their ill-motives.
Mohiuddin asked the people to come forward to extend their support and cooperation in building the power plant in Banshkhali.
Meanwhile a delegate of the Jamaat-e-islami visited the spot at Gandamara in Banshkhali on Monday.
The Jamaat leaders expressed their sympathy to the members of the bereaved families whose relatives had died in the clash.
They also expressed their opinion on the construction of a power plant in the under developed locality of Banshkhali.
But they opined that the construction should go on as per directives of the environment department.
The delegate included, ANM Shamsul islam, Moulana Mominul Huq, Jafar Sadek, Jahirul Islam, Moulana Badrul Huq and Muhammad Arifullah.
