East West University (EWU) organized a human chain against murder, violence, rape, arson and eviction against Rohingyas in Myanmar on Sunday in front of the EWU Campus at Aftabnagar in the capital.
Hundreds of students, teachers and staff members of the university formed the human chain. At this human chain, students upheld different banners and placards consisting of anti-genocide and humanrights slogans such as ‘Stop Genocide, Save the Rohingyas’, ‘Let Rohingyas Live in Their Homes in Peace’, Stand Beside Rohingya Refugees’, ‘Take Back Rohingya’, ‘Save Humanity’.
The program was attended by Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of Board of Trustees (BoT), EWU and Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Fakrul Alam, Pro Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, Deans, Chairpersons of different departments, faculty members, officers, staff members, and students of the University.
At the end, in a short speech Dr Mohammed Farashuddin demanded an end to the ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.
He said that Rohingyas are a helpless people and everyone has to be vocal to stop the ongoing torture on them.
He pointed out that apart from ethnic and religious identities, people should stand beside all persecuted people whenever possible.
