A special team of Detective Branch of Khulna Metropolitan Police (DB, KMP) led by ASI Tomas Mondal seized huge stolen government medicine ( Red-green marked) from Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital on Monday and three persons were arrested they while they were trying to sell the stolen medicine at a pharmacy in Heraj Market in the city. Tk 9.5 lakh were also seized by DB personnel while the arrested persons offered the amount as bribe, DB sources said.
When contacted over cell phone, AM Kamrul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch of Khulna Metropolitan Police told this correspondent that after getting secret information, the team led by ASI Tomas Mondal conducted drive, arrested three persons, seized huge stolen government medicine from Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital and Taka 9.5 lacs which were offered as bribe with a view to release the arrested persons.
The seized medicines are- 20 thousand pieces of Ciprofloxacin 500 mg and 17 thousand pieces of Esomiprazole . The arrested persons were trying to go to sell the stolen medicines at Heraj Market, the largest medicine market in Khulna city, DB ADC added.
The arrestees are- Debproshad Roy,43, son of son of late Gopi Roy of Hula area in Batiaghata upazila, Deepankar Sana, 36, son of Hironmoy Sana of Chandnirchak area in Koyra upazila of Khulna district and Sheikh Rakibul Abedin, 33, son of Sheikh Anisuddin of West Baniakhamar area under Sonadanga police station in Khulna city who is the proprietor of Ema Drugs at Heraj Market. Arrested Debproshad is the Pharmacist of Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Hospital and the other arrested Deepankar is brother-in-law of Debproshad Roy.
Dr. Bidhan Chandra Goswami, Director of the Hospital said, a five member probe committee was formed in this connection. Besides, the pharmacist Debproshad was suspended.
The probe committee was formed led by Dr.SM Morshed, deputy director of the Hospital and the four other members are- Dr. Abdul Kader, Dr. Shahidul Islam Mukul, Dr. Asaduzzaman and Administrative Officer Md. Waheduzzaman.
It is mentionable in this connection that recently The New Nation published a report regarding the matter of different irregularities and corruption including sale of government medicines from the stores of government hospitals in Khulna city and nine upazila health complexes of Khulna district.
