The second day of weeklong income tax fair has drawn huge crowd on Wednesday amid rush of tax-payers for one-stop services, official sources said.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is organizing the week-long fair across the country for seventh consecutive year aiming at encouraging people to pay tax and bringing more people under tax net.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith officially inaugurated the fair at the NBR Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

The tax fair offers registration of Electronic Tax-payers Identification Number, pay tax, file returns and encourage prospective taxpayers to get involved with the country’s taxation system.

On the second day, the NBR bagged over Tk533.69 crore revenues through collection of 20,657 income tax returns across the country while a total of 123,348 people received different services from the fair.

Besides, a total of 7,824 people registered themselves with e-TIN.

On the second day, the NBR’s fair held at 51 spots across the country, including capital Dhaka.

“The fair drew huge crowd on the second day as the Revenue Board offers one-stop service for the taxpayers and other service seekers there,” NBR member and chief coordinator of the fair organising committee Md Abdur Razzak, told The New Nation on Wednesday night.

He said: “We have got huge response from the tax-payers across the country on the day with people seen providing tax at the fair venues with enthusiasm”.

Abdur Razzak said the NBR is organising the fair to assist the existing taxpayers to register with Electronic Tax-payers Identification Number, pay tax, file returns and encourage prospective tax-payers to get involved with the taxation system.

“I have been visiting the fair every year as taxmen provides hassle free services from this fair,” Monir Hossain, a 60-year-old taxpayer, told The New Nation on Wednesday.

Hossain, who came to submit his tax return at Agargaon fair venue, also said tax officials help us solve any kind of problems instantly and teaches us about the due process to submit return here. But the scenario is completely different in the tax offices. So, I submit my return here.
