The government has launched huge rehabilitation programme to offset the damage by recent flood across the country.
“Government has already allocated cash seven core, 20,000 metric tons of rice and a total of 40,200 bundles corrugated iron sheet under Grant Relief (GR) as part of rehabilitation programme to minimize the damage by the flood,” an official of the National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC) said here.
Due to receding trend of the water level in all rivers across the country, the flood situation gradually improved. The government is keeping rehabilitation programme in almost all the districts as per extent of damages, the sources said.
In Lalmonirhat, over 49,000 families in 96 villages of the district have been suffering from the flood water since the water level of the Tista River swelled. But the situation has improved with the receding of water level. The people lost their houses, crops and domestic animals while three persons died during the flood. The communication system of the flood affected areas was extensively damaged. The district authorities already provided 415 metric tons rice and Taka 3, 30,000 to the areas part from the GR allocation.
In Kurigram, over 4,60,000 families of 64 Unions of the district were ruthlessly affected by the recent flood. The flood water damaged around 62,000 hectors of crop land, 96 bridges, 12 educational institutions and 26 kilometers dam. It also took away life of a peson. The DC Office has already provided 239 metric tons rice and Taka 3, 45,000 in the area.
In Sirajganj over 15,000 people under 200 villages across the district have lost their food and shelter. The District Administrator office has already distributed 140 metric tons rice and Taka 3, 20,000 as sub-allocation for affected people.
In Jamalpur, the water level of the Jamuna River is receding continuously . The DC office already distributed 129 metric tons rice and Taka 5, 47,000 as sub-allocation to the over 28,000 affected families under 41 unions of the district. They are also conducting many renovation works here to recover damages roads and educational institutions, official sources said.
In Bogra, over 1,14,0000 people of the district suffered due to recent flood. The flood water damaged over 6,000 hectors crop land of the district. The DC office has already provided 70 metric tons rice and Taka 8,00,0000 as sub-allocation to the affected area.
In Gaibandha, about 2,40,000 people under 357 villages of the district were affected during the recent flood. The flood damaged about 40,000 hectors crop land, over 11 kilometer roads and many houses. One person drowned. The DC office, 325 metric tons rice and Taka 7,51,000, already provided in this connection. Social Welfare Ministry is also distributing relief worth about Taka 6,18,000. Public Health Engineering Department is doing renovation works.
In Nilphamari, over 14,000 peoples under seven unions were affected due to recent flood. The DC office has already provided 23 metric tons rice and Taka 1,05,000 as sub-allocation of the area.
