BCC election: Huge number of young voters targeted by candidates

Huge number of young and first-time enlisted voters targeted by the candidates of the fourth election of Barishal City Corporation.
The electronic media based social contact and propagation tools like face book, documentary videos targeted young voters, has given the election propagation a new dimension.
The number of 18-year-plus 30 thousand and 909 new voters adding with 2 lakhs 11 thousand and 257 of 2013 now increased the number of BCC voters to 2 lakhs 42 thousand and 166.
So now young voters with age-limits of 18-30 would consist almost majority of the voters. Usually among the voters, most of the young persons cast their votes showing their activeness than the seniors and may play vital role in making election decision, said Enayet Hossain Chowdhury, former district organizer of Fair Election Monitoring Alliance (FEMA).
In propagation items like face book and video, AL candidate Serniabad Sadik Abdullah also sending SMS promising the young voters to execute their dreams and fulfill aspirations for making the city youth-friendly and construct international standard stadium, developing facilities for their cultural potentials.
The only female and BSD nominated young mayor candidate Dr. Manisha Chakraborty promised to extend employment opportunity, create library and sports facilities for socio-cultural-mental-physical development of the youths.
BNP nominated mayor candidate and body-building sportsman Mojibor Rahman Sarwar giving promise young voters to develop sports and healthy body building facilities in the city.
It would be generally expected that that young voters would support the younger candidate more than seniors as the juniors have less black spots, said Hasina, a first-time voter of the city.
Those who could understand mind and thoughts of youths and expanding employment facilities make the city environment friendly, free from drug addiction and terrorism, will able to attract the young voters, told Hussain, another young voters of the city.
A candidate promising to make city safe from eveteasers, drug addicts, dowry, early marriage, torture against women and child, could attract young female voters, Taslima, a college girl opined.
Asifur Rahman, a young professional of the city, said mayor of the city should be able to understand and follow the new digital trend to attract young voters.
