The authorities here today seized a huge quantity of ‘Jhatka’ (banned Hilsha fish fry) from two big fishing trawlers in city’s Avoy Mitroghat of Fisherighat area under Kotwali thana on Wednesday.
Members of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) along with the district administration officials recovered the fish in a drive in the morning.
Executive Magistrate Sayed Murad, who led the drive, said they searched two trawlers-MV Osha and M V Sea Heart-around 10 am and seized the Jatka weighing about 15 tones.
Police detained the fishing trawlers, but could not arrest anyone as sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the Jatka businessmen fled the scene.
