Huge fire at Rohingya camps: International bodies must give their version

A media report on Tuesday said at least 10,000 Rohingya homes were burnt to ashes in a devastating fire killing at least eleven including three children and displacing more than 50,000 at a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar on Monday. It also damaged several hundred shanties of local Bangladeshi families. Thousands were left injured and missing. The government has formed a seven-member probe committee to investigate the cause of the fire.

We know these ill-fated Rohingyas were expelled from their homes across the border in Myanmar. At present over one million of them are living in refugee camps. The fire-displaced people have taken refuge this time in local schools and other establishments. Apart from Rohingya huts, several NGO offices, schools, and madrasas were also burnt, local officials said indicating huge losses to Rohingya families and local businesses.

The report said officials of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNICEF and other humanitarian organizations have expressed deep concern about the safety of the affected people. Bangladesh has also immediately mobilized assistance to the victims. We do not have an efficient government in control. Otherwise it will be next to impossible to convince the world that ten thousand houses went in flames killing at least eleven persons including three children. The question is, there are the international bodies engaged for taking care of Rohingyas. What they have been doing if not to ensure their safety against devastating fire. They must come out openly yon to give their explanation. We have had greater faith in their ability to help the refugees at least to keep alive. But we are surprised such a tragedy occurred so easily.
We want to hear what the international bodies say. We all cannot forget that Rohingyas are human beings and were forced to be refugees in other countries. How savage the army of Myanmar has been exposed once again by the new coup leaders. They do not care if hundreds of people are killed to suppress them. Myanmar is a dangerously equipped military power. Our dear friend India is supporting the brutalities being committed against their people. China is surely a great ally Myanmar. Let them have their systems of government. But these governments cannot be tolerated to deny people the right to life.

If the human right to life cannot be saved the position of Western countries is like letting down the oppressed people all over who want to live and survive the brutality in the hand is mad dictators.
