Huge crowds thronged the 19-day long Combined Ekushey Book Fair on the 12th day yesterday as people waited in long queues to pass security points to enter the fair compound.
The first ever Combined Ekushey Book Fair is the largest gathering of readers, writers and publishers in Chattogram region.
Readers and visitors were seen moving from one stall to another in search of new titles. Many visitors said that they were only here today to have a look and that they would decide on what to buy on subsequent visits.
Publishes and writers, however, said that the presence of large crowds was very encouraging.
Chief Education officer of Chattogram City Corporation and member secretary of the book fair Suman Barua today sought assistance from all concerned so that the fair runs smoothly this year.
Publishers expressed hope that participation of readers would increase day by day while readers said that they hoped that the authorities would take strict steps to avoid irregularities.
Tagore, Nazrul and Spring festivals, Valentine’s Day celebration, debate competition, quiz competition on literature, culture, heritage and liberation war and patriotic song, and drawing and essay competitions are the highlights of the book fair.
A total of 101 publishers, including 51 from Dhaka, are being showcasing their stalls in the book fair.
A large number of writers, litterateurs, poets, teachers, journalists, entrepreneurs and elites were also seen visiting the fair.
