Chittagong Bureau :
Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] arrested four suspected militants after a series of day-long raids in different places of the port city Chittagong on Monday.
The crime-busting elite force seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the possessions of the suspected criminals.
The seized firearms include five AK-22 automatic rifles and five foreign-made pistols. They confessed that they were amassing weapons to launch offensive attacks. Many bullets were also found along with the weapons.
At least 23 sets of combat costume and communication materials were also found at the places where they used those materials for regular training. It was the latest arms haul ahead of municipal
elections slated for April 28. RAB-7 Commander Lt. Col. Mifta Uddin said that the elite force arrested a suspected arms supplier on Sunday night from a hotel at the city’s Station Road. He was also imparting training to the militants.
Later RAB held the three others along with arms and ammunition on the basis of his information from city’s Akbar Shah and Panchalaish areas.
The RAB officials said that the arrestees are linked with a new militant group, Shaheed Hamza Brigade (SHB), which operates its activities in Chittagong.
