Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Alhaj A J M Nasir Uddin called upon all journalists and media workers to cooperate with him in executing his development initiatives in Chittagong. He said, “CCC is a service-oriented organization. Without tax, the CCC cannot provide services to the city dwellers.”
He further said, “vested quarters are trying to discourage the city dwellers for paying taxes by telling that the city corporation has increased the holding taxes. But, it is fact that CCC is not increasing any taxes, but reassesses the values of holdings causing the increase of holding taxes.”
Addressing the meeting with the Civil Society Coordination Committee at the KB Abdus Sattar hall of CCC on Thursday morning, Mayor said, “the city dwellers have opportunity to complain about the disputes on taxes. We will hear the complaints of city dwellers and settle the dispute by discussions.”
He said, “We have already received 13000 complaints of the city dwellers regarding taxes and we have also solved these.” He also said that the poor city dwellers who have holdings but hard to pay the holding taxes of CCC, we will consider them.
Mayor said, CCC is going to introduce Holding Tax Management System (HTMS) by automation system payment of taxes of CCC to ensure the transparency in tax collection. After introducing the automation system, everybody can pay the taxes from home. Through the HTMS, transparency will be ensured and tax collection will be increased.”
Among others Former Chairman of IEB Engineer Mohammed Harun, incumbent vice chairman of IEB Engineer M A Rashid, BMA Chittagong Unit President Dr Mujibul Haque, Architect Shohel Mahmud Sakur, Director of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahafujul Haque Shah, Ohid Sewraj Swapon, journalist M Nasirul Haque, Alhaj Ali Abbas, Rekha Alam, Shamima Harun Lubna and Advocate Mili Chowdhury addressed the function. Besides, Chief Executive Officer of CCC Mohammed Shamsudoha, Secretary Mohammed Abul Hossain, Chief Engineer Lt. Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmad were also present at the meeting.
