A total of 8,01,711 students passed the Higher Secondary Certificate and its equivalent examinations 2017 with 68.91 per cent pass rate.
The pass percentage and the number of highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) have declined compared with the past year.
The percentage was 74.70 a year ago and the number of the successful students was 8,99,150.
As many as 37,726 students scored the GPA-5 this year whereas it was 58,276 last year.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid accompanied by all Board Chairmen and top education officials handed over the results of all Boards to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban on Sunday morning.
“I request all guardians to establish a deeper bond with their children,” the Prime Minister said. “Build a relationship in a way that your children can talk to you as openly as they do with their friends. Make sure that they are not involved with drugs or militancy.”
The Education Minister presented the result details in a media briefing at1pm in the Secretariat.
Under the eight general education boards, the pass rate was 66.84, which was 5.63 percent lower than the past year. Results of the Madrasah Education Board marked a drop with 77.20 per cent pass rate. It was 88.19 per cent last year.
Results of the Technical Education Board also marked a drop with the pass rate at 81.33 per cent compared with 84.57 per cent last year.
Sylhet Education Board secured the top position this year with 72.00 percent pass rate. It is 69.74 percent in Dhaka Education Board, 49.52 percent in Comilla, 70.02 percent in Jessore, 61.09 percent in Chittagong, 70.28 percent in Barisal, 65.44 percent in Dinajpur, 71.30 percent in Rajshahi Board, 77.02 percent in Madrasa Board and 81.33 percent in Technical Education Board.
A total of 244 students out of 259 passed the HSC examination abroad with 94.21 percent pass rate.
A total of 532 educational institutions achieved 100 percent success in the HSC and its equivalent examinations across the country this year.
A total of 848 institutions achieved 100 percent pass rate in the examinations last year.
Students from 8,771 institutions took part in the examinations this year.
No student passed in 72 institutions this year which was 25 last year.
Girls outshone boys in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations in terms of pass rate. The success rate among girls is 70.43% while it is 68.61% among boys.
Institution-based result sheet has to be downloaded through entry of EIIN of respective educational institutions from www.dhakaeducationboard.gov.bd.

This year, a total of 11.83 lakh candidates appeared for the examinations that began on April 2. The written tests ended on May 15 while practical tests on May 25.
