Staff Reporter :
The Human Rights Forum Bangladesh (HRFB) on Sunday asked the government to form a committee for carrying fair investigation into Chawkbazar inferno and to detect the cause of negligence in implementing High Court order after Nimtali fire.
The HRFB statement was read out by Nagorik Uddyog Executive Officer Zakir Hossain in a press briefing held at Dhaka Reporters Unity. The rights body presented a list of short-term and long-term goals to help prevent further tragedies.
Among the short-term goals, HRFB recommended that a government committee should be formed to investigate the deadly Chawkbazar inferno, the delay in executing the High Court order for removing factories from the Old Dhaka, and for bringing those responsible for not doing justice.
The recommendations also say that the government should compile a list of victims to ensure proper treatment for the injured, and compensate survivors and family members of the deceased. Survivors must get govt support for rehabilitation.
