The BNP-led 20-party alliance on Friday alleged that the violation of law, human rights and neutrality by some ‘overenthusiastic’ officials has clouded the prospect of continuation of Bangladesh law-enforcement agencies’ glorious role in UN peacekeeping missions.
In a statement, signed by BNP vice chairman Selima Rahman, the alliance urged all the members of different law-enforcement agencies, including the police, BGB, RAB and Ansar, to remain alert about it considering
the situation. “We request you all to work as per their good judgement after questioning their own conscience.”
The 20-party said the government which assumed office through an ‘uncompetitive and farcical election’ snatching people’s voting right has annihilated democracy. “They’re now desperate to cling to power by resorting to repressive acts, killing and bloodletting.”
It alleged that the government getting alienated from people has now become completely dependent on state law-enforcement agencies to hang onto power.
The opposition alliance said the ruling party has given the charge to some partisan, controversial, opportunist and motivated officials to use the law enforcers as a shield to protect its illegal power.
It further claimed: “Some biased and overenthusiastic official have dented the image, tradition and neutrality of our law enforcers and put their role into a question at home and abroad by breaching the law, neutrality and human rights.”
