The court asked the concerned state counsel, Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder, to collect the information and place it in the court within June 10.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim wanted to know the information while holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
Dr Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun, a Deputy Registrar of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), filed the writ petition on Sunday seeking HC directives upon the government for acquisition of the ICUs of the private hospitals and for formation of a Central Bed Bureau during the coronavirus pandemic.
Advocate Yadia Zaman took part in the hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner while additional Attorney General Murad Reza and deputy attorney general Amit Talukder stood for the state.
Later Mr Amit Talukder said the High Court did not pass any order over the issue, but wanted to know the information over how many ICUs were available in all public and private hospitals across the country and how they were maintained. We will inform the court about it within June 10, he added.
Advocate Yadia Zaman said, “ICU is the most important medical support for the Covid-19 infected patients. Considering the matter three provinces of India had already acquired all private hospitals for the pandemic period. So we have filed the writ petition seeking HC directives upon the government for acquisition of the ICUs of the private hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.”
