Mayor Ivy, others worried: How many bodies to meet godfather’s thirst of blood

Different organizations on Wednesday expressed grave concern over incidents of abduction and murders taking place in the country almost everyday.
The people, they said, are in the grip of panic following increasing incidents of abductions and murder in the country. It is the responsibility of the law enforcing agencies so to say the government to give the true picture to the people, they said.
Meanwhile, Gano Forum held a human chain in protest against increasing incidents of abduction and murder in front of Jatiya Press Club on Wednesday. Speakers at the human chain said in some incidents of abduction and murder the involvement of members of law enforcing agencies is alleged.
 Gano Forum demanded stoppage of abduction and murder and arrest and punishment of those involved in such crimes. Presided over by general secretary of the city committee Sayedur rahman it was addressed by Executive president Subrata Chowdhury as the chief guest. Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy expressing resentment against the administration said bodies are
found in the Sitalakhya frequently, which is a matter of serious concern. Having visited the body of panel mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation Nazrul Islam she said, ” We want to know how many bodies would meet the thirst for blood of god fathers of Narayanganj.” She also wanted to know the reason behind silence of the administration. Things cannot continue like this, she further said. Narayanganj with four others were abducted when they were on way to their home from Narayanganj court on Sunday afternoon.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convener of Nagorik Oikkya addressing the government said , ” Why we will remain in a state of risk and panic every day? Why we have to pass our days in a state of uncertainty?
 he said this addressing a roundtable , organized by Bangladesh Civil Rights Society at the Jatiya Press Club on Wednesday .
If the government fails to give security of life to the people, the government won’t be able to complete its term, he said adding , ” Democracy is in danger even after 43 years of our independence.”
Democracy, he said, was buried once in 1975 and again it was stabbed on January 5 last.
Posing a question he wanted to know whether democracy is in ICU or in hospital or dead.
Referring to Teesta long march of the BNP he said, ” I want to congratulate the party for the programme. In this connection he said it was not clear why the Awami League was critical of the BNP’s long march. The government, he said, should ask rightful share of the Teesta water from India, Manna said.
Presided over by coordinator of the organization Fazlul Huq Bhuiyan, it was also addressed among others, journalist MA Aziz and former president of FBCCI Afzal Hossain.
