How did Gazipur become a coronavirus hotspot?

Gazipur has become one of the hotspots for coronavirus infection after Narayanganj City Corporation, according to the Health Department.
It was disclosed in a regular press briefing in the Health Department on Monday. According to the briefing, the rate of increasing in Gazipur is 20 PC.
Gazipur district Civil Surgeon Dr. Khairuzzaman said that the total number of coronavirus cases in the district is so far 269. Of these, 97 persons were attacked in a single day.
Five have been kept in isolation and 3583 in the home quarantine.
He said, the number of patients is increasing day by day.
“Many people of Gazipur worked in Narayanganj. They returned to Gazipur after lockdown declared. It also caused coronavirus infection. Now it’s spreading differently,” added Civil Surgeon.
He said that the early coronavirus patients were identified in Gazipur. They either returned to Narayanganj or came in contact with others.
“That is way to spread coronavirus infection through community transmission,” he said.
Besides, there are various types of garments in Gazipur and some of them are still open. The workers were also on the field for
some time for receiving salary and allowance. This the infection has spread, he believes.
Meanwhile, Shamsunnahar, the SP of Gazipur district elaborated details in front of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a video conference on Monday.
She said, they were facing various problems at the field level as part of preventing the spread of coronavirus.
One of them is that the garment factories are open.
She said, the first one coronavirus infected was found in a agro farm in Kaliganj Upazila of the district.
After that, 25 workers more found coronavirus positive from that factory when tested a sample.
The business of that agro farm is mainly Narayanganj and Chittagong based. Infection spread to the whole district after started from the farm.
Besides, the Gazipur district was also connected with Narayanganj.
However, other factories have not been infected yet. One infection worker was found in other factories. Now he lives in that factory.
The situation may be worse if the factories are reopened and workers come and go.
She said, many traders are taking advantage in the name of making PPE and other kinds of products.
Under these circumstances, specific instructions are needed to ensure lockdown, SP said.
There are still many factory owners who have called the workers to get their salaries. But salary was not paid.
“People should stay at their homes to prevent infection in the district and there is no alternative to enforcing lockdown, said Dr. Khairuzzaman, Civil Surgeon of Gazipur.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Gazipur District Abu Naser Uddin said, they had decided to implement the lockdown to prevent the spread of infection.
Besides, they have not yet taken any new measures.
He said the lockdown was clamped in the entire district but it was not working properly.
