Observing that the country has turned dysfunctional due to ‘misrule and corruption’, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday wondered that a corrupt minister is still there in office without any trouble even after rotten wheat import from Brazil.
“This regime is busy plundering public money. They don’t face any trial for indulging in corruption…the government has imported rotten wheat. This wheat is being allocated for Food for Works Test Relief (TR)
projects… but the corrupt minister is comfortably there in his office,” she said.
Speaking at an iftar party, the BNP chief further said, “The country has turned dysfunctional. A horrible situation is prevailing across the country. Now people want a change-peace and progress.”
She said there is no alternative to establishing an elected government through a meaningful and credible election to save the country and its people from the grasp of Awami League-led government’ s misrule, corruption and repression.
“The rule of law, peace and democracy will be restored and people’s basic and human rights will be established if a fair and inclusive election is held,” Khaleda told the programme.
Association of Engineers, a platform of pro-BNP engineers, arranged the iftar party at Bashundhara Convention Centre.
The BNP chief alleged that government is reluctant to be with the flood-hit people with necessary support at different parts of the country as it is least bothered about public sufferings.
Accusing the government of resorting to repression and filing false cases to subdue the opposition, she said, “The houses of the leaders of the BNP-led 20-party alliances are being attacked and plundered. They can’t stay with their families. Is it politics or democracy? She questioned.
Khaleda called upon the engineers to get united and put up a strong resistance against the government’s ‘misdeeds’.
