Police recovered the body of a housewife from a house at Fakirhat Panthishah Mazar area in Sitakunda upazila on Sunday noon.
The deceased was identified as Jahanara Begum, 35, wife of Mosarraf Hossain, hailing from Muchhapur village in Sandwip upazila.
Confirming the incident, Mozammel Hosssain, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Sitakiunda Police Station said on information police recovered the body from a house of the area after breaking the door.
Police suspected that she was tortured to death as several injury marks were found on the body, the OC said.
Victim’s daughter Morsheda Akhtar, 13, and son Rakib, 12, said their father (Mosarraf Hossain) used to tortured their mother after taking drugs.
On Sunday night, he tortured their mother and left the body inside the house after confirming her death, said her son Rakib.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sitakunda Ciircle) Shompa Rani Das and officer-in-charge of the Police Station Iftekhar Hasan visited the spot.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy, police said.
Locals said Mosarraf Hossain introduced himself as source of Baro Awlia Highway Police.
