Police recovered the slaughtered body of an indigenous housewife from her residence at Gachhban village under Sadar upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
She was identified as Rachana Tripura, 45, wife of Sambu Nath Roaza of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman said some unknown people entered into the house of Rachana at any time of Saturday night.
At first they raped the ill-fated housewife and later slaughtered her with sharp knives. Police recovered the dead body at around 10am on Sunday and sent it to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Additional Superintendent of police Md Enayet Hossain Mannan visited the spot and said they would investigate into the matter sincerely.
No case was lodged till finalising the report. No one was arrested in this connection.
