One Gautam Datta of village Bagmara under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila strangulated his wife Jhumur Rani Majumdar (19) to death as he did not get a sum of Tk.2 lakh from his father-in-law for purchasing land, it is alleged.
Police of Bagerhat Model PS recovered the dead body on Monday morning and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
Ill-fated Jhumur was the daughter of one Nirmal Kumar Majumdar of village Pagla Uttarpara under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district.
It is learnt from Bappi Majumdar, brother of the deceased that his sister was given married to Gautam Datta, son of one Sajal Datta of village Bagmara under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila 2 year ago.
On Friday last she came to her father’s residence and demanded a sum of Tk. 2 lakh for her husband to purchase a plot of land.
The father promised to give the amount within a few days. On the following day his sister returned to her husband’s residence. On Sunday at night (9 pm) some one informed them from the house of Gautam Datta over mobile phone, Jhumur was seriously ill. At the same night he rushed to Gautam’s house where he found the dead body of her sister. He alleged, Gautam and other members of his family killed his sister in a preplanned way as they did not get the money from my father for purchasing land.
But the members of Gautam’s family claimed, Jhumur committed suicide for a trifling matter.
