Housewife held for torturing minor domestic help

Police arrested house wife Sharmin Aktar Ankhi, 29, an employee of community clinic, and rescued severely tortured Lamia Aktar Mariam, 10, from her house at Akash Majil on Madina Sarak of Kshipur area of the city on Monday night.
Nasiruddin Mallik, Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police, acknowledging the facts said after receiving a secret call the raiding the house recovered tortured victim Lamia and arrested housewife Ankhi, one of the torturer on Monday night.
Ashraful Islam Chowdhury, a banker, and husband of Ankhi, managed to flee from the scene during the raid.
Sub -Inspector Yunus Ali as complainant lodged a case in this connection with Airport police station against two Sharmin Aktar Ankhi and her husband Ashraful.
Ankhi was sent to jail after producing before the court and recording her confessional statement. Police drive to arrest her absconding co-accused husband Ashraful going on.
The arrestee produced before the court where she admitted her offence of torturing Mariam and sent to jail by order of the court on Tuesday afternoon.
Victim Lamia admitted at Barishal Sher E Bangla Hospital on Monday night after recovery.
The rescued victim Mariam said her father Iqbal Sardar was a rickshaw puller from Noapara village under Batajor union of Gournadi upazila in the district and six months ago she was deployed as domestic help at the house of Ankhi-Ashraful.
However soon after employment the couple started torturing and beating Mariam with stick, kitchen utensils, and hot-spoons for lame excuses by closing door of the room.
On Monday they started torturing Mariam by injecting needle under nails, beating with stick, saving head for eating sugar with permission of her employer.
Hearing her hue and cry, neighbors informed police and police raiding the house rescued the victim and arrested one of the torturers, police said.
