Police brought a housewife to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH] on Friday for medical test who was allegedly gang raped after she was forcibly taken away by the miscreants from her residence in the city’s Sabujbagh area.
According to the DMCH officials, the victim would be sent to One Stop Crisis Centre after the medical examination on Saturday.
The housewife complained to the police that she was violated by a gang of 10 ‘identified’ local miscreants, including Khokan, Monir,
Liton, Kabir and Mehedi, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The miscreants came to her house where she along with her husband was staying. They queried whether they were really husband and wife. At one stage, the miscreants want to see the kabinnama [marriage document]. They demanded extortion of Tk 50,000 when the couple did not provide it to the miscreants.
“They beat my husband mercilessly when he failed to give extortion money as per their demand. Then they took me to an adjacent building by pressing my mouth and raped me one after another. The miscreants also threatened to kill me if I inform this to anyone,” the victim said in the written complaint filed with the Sabujbagh Police Station on Thursday night.
Officer-in-Charge of Sabujbagh Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said, the police have stated a massive hunt to nab the criminals involved in the incident.
In another incident, a housewife was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws at Saraipara of Putia union under Nababganj upzila in Dinajpur on Friday. Police, however, claimed that it was an incident of suicide.
The victim was identified as Manjila Khatun, 19. Local sources said, she was killed at a stage of altercation with her husband over conversation with one her relatives through mobile phone.
“Her husband saw her talking with an unknown person through mobile phone on Thursday night. They both locked in an altercation when her husband enquired about the identity of the person. The incident of burning took place at about 12:30 am on Friday when she poured kerosene on her body and put fire on it,” Amirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Nababganj Police Station, said.
The OC also said, “She was rushed to local health complex immediately. Later, she was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated.”
